On 14th April, 1976, Nigeria and Mexico established  diplomatic relations. However, the Nigerian Mission in Mexico City lasted for a period spanning 1981-1983. In 2000, it was re-opened and remains so till the present.

On  25th August, 2017 H.E. Ambassador Aminu Iyawa presented his Letters of Credence to the Mexican President, Mr. Enrique Peña Nieto.

"I feel highly honoured and privileged to assume office as Nigeria's Ambassador to these United Mexican States.

I have brought with me warm greetings and good tidings from President Muhammadu Buhari, who holds President Nieto, the government and the people of Mexico in high esteem.

With over 180 million people, each of the 36 states in Nigeria is endowed with cultivatable arable land, minerals and human resources - a dream come true for any potential investor.
